A Little About Us!
Emma Garell grew up playing at School of Rock (SoR) in Richmond, Virginia. She always wanted to be a singer and had interest in Broadway until she found Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Led Zeppelin. They encouraged her to use power vocals while still being able to control a soft indie song. School of Rock pushed her vocal training and confidence and she quickly became addicted to covering the greats of music history.
She loves to sing…anything…and all the time.
She grew up listening to Alanis Morissette, Joan Jett, The Beatles, The Pretty Reckless, Johnny Cash, Nirvana, and Dolly Parton…with a sprinkle of Emenim and LOTS of Musicals. She has a broad appreciation for most music and enjoys the challenge of trying out something new…so feel free to toss them a challenge or two!
Eli Gilmer started playing guitar in 2013 at SoR Short Pump in Richmond, Virginia. He always wanted to play, but when he found SoR his world opened up. He also took drum lessons and plays bass and occasionally sings. He loves classic metal rock and the incomparable Jimmy Page. His tastes have broadened and he has become a huge fan of “Math” Rock. If it is complicated he likes to play it.
Emma and Eli met at School of Rock Short Pump location during Emma’s first season and his last. The theme was a tribute to Black Sabbath. So here they are a few years later playing together again exploring their own stripped down versions of popular and indie tunes by greats such as Hendrix, Nirvana, Fleetwood Mac and more.
They didn’t know where they wanted to take their open mic experiences but they both have a passion for music and are happier playing music together. Emma and Eli are on a musical journey and look forward to sharing with RVA!
